First Impression: Digimon Adventure tri

Tri (3)

I am a big fan of Digimon. In fact, this franchise is the reason I write about anime in the first place. It all started a long time ago, in a small hut far away in the Norwegian mountains, where a girl of only fourteen had nothing but her laptop to keep her company. Ok, perhaps that was a bit of a dramatisation, but my god, was I obsessed with Digimon back then. I would spend hours searching the web for fan art, I knew the names of every single character, human and digimon, in English and Japanese, and who knows how much time went to reading the fanfiction. So when I heard about Digimon Adventure tri, I was freaking hyped.

It’s shit: Guilty Crown.

Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 09.02.38

By the time I managed to finish Guilty Crown, I couldn’t fathom what it was actually about.

I got interested in the anime through a few friends. Mostly they hated it, but there was one person who praised it above anything else, and I had to know why; curiosity got the best of me. There must be something worthy about a show that enforces such strong feelings in people, whether they are positive or negative. And when I learned who was behind this title, my interest peaked.

Future of this blog.

Obviously I have been, ahem, very busy for the past few months. I haven’t even been watching anime save for a couple of episodes of Haikyuu when I’ve been really bored.

My area of interest has shifted greatly in a short amount of time. Of course, I’m not saying I don’t like anime anymore. What has happened is with everything going on in university, I’ve simply prioritised playing video games other important tasks and activities. Unfortunately I’ve been made to watch a lot of western shows due to my screenwriting class, as well having found interest in 80s and 90s films. And I’ve got a part-time job so anime and manga has ended up at the bottom of my to-do list.

However, fret not, my friends. I will get back to anime and I am in the process of persuading my partner into watching some FMA with me. I’ve still got my Crunchyroll account and a long list of things I want to watch.

For the time being though, I will not be following any airing anime, save for Digimon Tri, as keeping up with all the seasons is simply too time-consuming next to my studies. I’m focusing on my backlog for the next few months, searching for that new genre to get me hooked (I’m getting tired of sports anime..).

In other news I will be travelling for a bit in 2016 and Tokyo is on my itinerary! Head over to my personal blog to read about that.

Understanding Wolf’s Rain

“When the world ends, Paradise will open, but only the wolves know how to find it.”

Wolf's Rain (8)

So I’ve watched Wolf’s Rain three times now, and only on the last watch did I get a sense of understanding the story, at least a little. Perhaps I was too young, watching it first at fourteen, or too uneducated to see the images and metaphors and get the bigger picture. Perhaps I was too narrow-minded, seeing only the story as it was presented and dedicating my attention to the handsome characters, instead of looking for the deeper message. I took the anime for what it was, and never bothered to ask questions or make comments, because to me, at the time, it made perfectly sense. It strikes me as funny, that it never once occurred to me to ask: what was that all about?

Kuroko no Basket.

Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 10.40.27

I’ve dreaded writing this post with all that I am. Putting it into words would mean to acknowledge, to accept that something beautiful and bewitching has ended. And so Kuroko no Basket has aired its final episode and we’ve finally, unfortunately seen the end for our dear Kuroko Tetsuya. I’m putting a spoiler alert up here (for season three!) so please beware.

Kuroko’s Bishies

There was a time when I didn’t really see the point in sports anime. Then I realised sports anime are full of attractive males and potent shipping ground. And Kuroko no Basket has three full seasons and a lot of male characters. Thus, to celebrate the end of our beloved basketball anime, I have compiled a list of the hottest guys of the show, along with a rating how how well they would go with our main character Kuroko Tetsuya. (Minor spoilers!)

#7: Kagami Taiga (without his shitty eyebrows)

Sunshine Blog Award Nomination!

Throughout my blogging career I’ve been nominated a couple of times for various tags, and always promised to follow up on them. I never did because of reasons like I forgot, didn’t have the time, etc, and I deeply regret this. Which is why I decided when I was nominated by the lovely Cassandra over at The Huge Anime Fan that this time I would participate for sure. Today I’ll be answering her questions relating to anime.
